One of the most promising energy sources for the environment is hydrogen generated through the division of water, a reaction in which oxygen and hydrogen are produced. Now, thanks to researchers from the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research, this hydrogen economy is closer than ever.
Researchers at the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research describe how a magnet has been used to directly improve the production of hydrogen during the division of water by electrolysis in alkaline medium. Felipe A. Garces-Pineda, first author of the article, explains that the discovery opens up new opportunities to implement magnetic improvements in the water division and that the low cost of technology makes it suitable for Industrial applications.
